The placement offers the opportunity to work alongside a mid-career resident maker as part of the Making Moves craft development initiative.

Outside In Exhibition: Submissions Now Being Taken

Outside In aims to provide a platform for artists who find it difficult to access the art world either because of health issues, disability, social circumstance or art process. Create yourself an online gallery now on the Outside In website and you can choose to submit two pieces of art to go forward for selection for the Outside In: National to be held at Pallant House Gallery from 27 October 2012 to 3 February 2013.

Flipside Black Country: Film Maker Opportunity, deadline 6 December

Flipside Black Country are looking to produce a film which can be used to launch the use of MTFC (Multi-Dimensional Treatment Foster Care) across the Black Country. They want our audience of foster carers, professionals and elected members to have a clear understanding of both the process and outcomes of MTFC. They want to engage young people, carers and staff in telling the story in a creative way that engages the audience. They also want to highlight the value of the Black Country Partnership. They want a finished product of approximately 20 minutes in length which is high quality, professional standard.

Making Moves: Designer Maker Artist Residency, Jan/Feb-April 2012

Warwick District Council seeks an experienced designer maker or artist whose work has a strong resonance with contemporary craft for a residency in Leamington Spa as part of the Making Moves craft development initiative. The residency will take place in The Glasshouse Studio attached to the Temperate House in Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa’s centrally situated historic pleasure gardens. Inspiration for the residency comes from (hi)stories  of Leamington Spa and its diverse communities, and we are especially interested in artists whose work stretches conventional thinking and making. Drawing on a wealth of research material, the  artist will have space and R&D time to further their own practice in response to the residency.

As we respond to the changing context in which we all work, Stafforshire University’s innovative short courses provide the chance to work with creative practitioners and organisations, enabling you to fully develop your potential as a professional in this area. The Postgraduate Community and Participatory Arts Programme has developed three short courses to help people using community arts to specialise and develop their expertise:

Making It Happen in Community Arts: A practically-based course that focuses on the development and implementation of participatory arts projects in community settings.
The Artist Professional Development Programme, Developing Arts for Health: A professional training programme for artists working in the area of arts and health.
Masters in Community and Participatory Arts: A professionally focussed MA aimed at practitioners in participatory practice.

Short Community Conversion Courses for Visual Artists, West Midlands

In the current economic climate, increasing numbers of visual artists and craftspeople are likely be working on short term contracts or projects with:

  • mature and older people in various communities
  • socio-economically or culturally isolated adults
  • disadvantaged, disabled or vulnerable groups
  • schools, community venues, or day-centres
  • care-homes, health centres or hospitals

Prior to any specialist training or preparation, the initial challenge for creative practioners is personal re-orientation. Day or half day courses can be designed to support and guide them in focusing their skills and imagination on how to facilitate informal learning for others. Courses are built round methodologies established by The Campaign for Drawing through its flagship initiative, The Big Draw, and cover:

Stafford County Council and Stafford College Faculty of Arts are working in partnership to offer an experienced artist / designer a residency at Eagle House Stafford (Midland Heart Organisation), as part of the Making Moves project.
