New Creative Health and Wellbeing Network for Staffordshire
During the Consequences conference on 13th January, Staffordshire Artists took the opportunity to take part in a lively ‘World Cafe’ style discussion about the formation of a Creative Health and Wellbeing network for artists. They explored what artists could gain from the network and how it should be run. Some of the key points raised were the coming together of offline and online networking, face to face meetings and the creation of a community of artists leading their own network with support from Staffordshire County Council.
The Creative Remedies Community Development Worker and freelance artist who ran the event, Laura Hickman, said: “It was great to lead the discussion session. Support, sharing of information and experiences, work opportunities and communicating with commissioners were some of the possible gains explored in our discussions, as well as having fun, socialising and sharing ideas!”
Participants felt strongly that the network should be inclusive to all arts for health practitioners, yet could be run by a core group of experienced artists who are committed in the long term. Regional meetings may be a good way forward as Staffordshire is a large county.
Further consultation will take place online to include artists’ views at the ground level of the Creative Health and Wellbeing Network. Any comments from arts and health practitioners living or working in Staffordshire can be emailed to info@creativeremedies.org.uk.
A final word from Laura: “We want to listen to your views and I’m personally looking forward to being part of the core group forming a network we can all benefit from”.
